Con art

Computer Game Graphics
•Print media graphics, such as game poster, game packaging They use in-game art or any type of art to promote the game

•In-game graphics (head-up display graphics, sprite graphics, background graphics, image textures) These are "in-game Graphics Anything from The objects, image textures
•Concept art graphics- Concept art is a form of illustration used to convey an idea for use in films, video games, animation, comic books, or other media before it is put into the final product. Quick sketches-
The one show the quick sketches of characters and a few weapons

Graphic Specification
•Client needs- The Client Beef what they would like
•Audience - Who do you want to play this game, Who is marketed for.
•Thumbnail sketching- This is a small drawing of a Thumbnail
•Visual style, eg colour, style, photo realistic, cel-shaded, anime.
Also Known Artistic styles this shows the way the art is. but also can also mean the colour "Visual" Mean to see
•Composition- Where it placed in a "Frame" Could use Leading lines and mainly using rule of three or using light to highlight something

•Typography- This means to match the font with the context E.G Horror with a Scary Text
•Technical considerations, eg file format, file size, optimisation, file naming conventions, asset
management, intended output. See back to other exercises

Compressed

Unit 78

File Exercise

a string of characters attached to a filename, usually preceded by a full stop and indicating the format of the file.Theses can be used to show what type of file the document is E.G PSD for Photoshop.

Some of these files are different for space and such, Some times it better to use a Compressed File instead of a uncompressed file.

Compressed

Compressed is where you take a file and compress it down into a ZIP file to save space.

What is a ZIP File?

ZIP is an archive file format that supports lossless data compression. A .ZIP file may contain one or more files or directories that may have been compressed. The .ZIP file format permits a number of compression algorithms, though DEFLATE is the most common.

ZIP isn't a Document its a Folder. To unlock a ZIP file you would need a third party App Called "7ZIP" Which uncompressed the folder with the files inside.

Optimising

To optimise means to make the best or most effective use of a file and maximising the space that you can use .
For E.G One of these are compression and the other isn't they look the same since its a basic photo but the size difference is quite large to save space.

Artistic styles in Video games

Btec Game Design level 3
Unit 78 Digital graphics for computer games
By Morgan Braker
Understand theory and applications of digital Graphics used for computer games
Artistic styles

In this selection I will be researching art styles in video games and discussing.

The first style is photo Realistic. "Until Dawn"

This style is used to make the game seem more realistic

The photo captures the realistic features of both charterers for this certain game the realistic adds to the horror and scare factors.

The video above shows some of game-play of  "Until Dawn" first five minutes of the game "so no spoilers" Though out the video she shows near human moment and noise but at the same way keeping the game-play i would compare it to a interaction movies. its impressive use of contextual facial animation to suit the right mood. you can see the sacredness or happiness on their faces.

The next style of art is Anime/Exaggeration

"Mad Father"
This type of style is used to show Exaggeration to make the game more enjoyable and more tense Via boss fight or such.

The photo shows some of the Japanese game "mad father" the face is more poppy and out going to show emotions but in this game it shows the horror which happens in the game and the bad things they had to go thought by the charterers have un-human reactions.

This trailer shows abit of the context and game-play the art style is unique. Has Aya "the little girl" walks around her movements are non human

Pixels

                                            What is a Pixel?

A pixel is a (a word invented from "picture element") is the basic unit of programmable colour on a computer display or in a computer image.

Graphics monitors display pictures by dividing the display screen into thousands or millions of pixels, arranged in rows and columns. The pixels are so close together that they appear connected. The number of bits used to represent each pixel determines how many colours or shades of Gray can be displayed.

A good way that pixels are used to is make pixel art which can be seen here from a game called "Undertale".

What is pixel art?

Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of software, where images are edited on the pixel level. The majority of graphics for 8-bit and 16-bit computers and video game consoles, as well as other limited systems like graphing calculators, is pixel art.

Types Of Digital Graphics

Raster Images

BMP -Bitmap
GIF -Graphics Interchange Format
TIFF -Tag Image File Format
JPG -Joint Photographic Experts Group

Raster photos are composed,Raster images are often called bitmap images because they are made of millions of tiny squares, called pixels. You can identify a raster or bitmap image by looking at it very closely. "If you zoom in enough" you will be able to see the square outlines of each pixel. A raster graphics or bitmap image is a dot matrix data structure, representing a generally rectangular grid of pixels or points of colour

Vector Image

PSD -Photoshop Data file
WMF -Windows Meta-file Format
FLA -Adobe Flash
AI- Adobe Illustrator

-Vector graphics is the creation of digital images through a sequence of commands or mathematical statements that place lines and shapes in a given 2D or 3D In physics, a vector is a representation of both a quantity and a direction at the same time.

They are mainly used to make logo or designs thanks to Adobe Illustrator And Adobe Photoshop.

Here is a video to help understand and explain better.

Gaming Platforms

Arcade:
An arcade game or coin-op is a coin-operated entertainment machine typically installed in public businesses such as restaurants, bars and amusement arcades. Most arcade games are video games, pinball machines, electo-mechanical games, redemption games or merchandisers.
You will also find that they are equipped so that you have plenty of room to set your soda or snack on it. There is nothing quite like a parent being able to enjoy a game of Donkey Kong with their child. The fun that can be had on arcade machines can be had by people in every age group. No online support or Multiplayer – You can not play online with the arcades Very large & hardware Dependant – They are not very portable so you cannot move it around as well as you could with modern consoles Older hardware than whats used today – The arcade hardware is still old compared to the other consoles because there is not a big market anymore for hardware in arcades Can crash a lot of the time – Can be unreliable because they still use old hardware Rarely used anymore besides dedicated arcades – Not many arcade machines in homes anymore, mainly found in dedicated arcades Not many games are created for them anymore unless they’re arcade based Can’t save games Basic Graphics (Low quality) – Due to the old hardware they cannot keep up with modern graphics that is being used by other consoles Game cannot be changed, one machine per game – You can only have one game per machine.

Console:

Advantages
Split Screen Co-op and used game market are real advantages of Console gaming (but PC games are cheaper on other hand). If you prefer Console exclusives then that's another advantage for you, but it may not be advantage for someone else. Other advantages of Consoles don't exist anymore.

PC-a personal computer.

Game review

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege-Review

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is a FPS Competition Game Where you use Teamwork.

The maps are locked for Different game modes E.G Ranked, Casual. Since haft of the maps aren't playable in ranked people tend to learn to glitch on And or learn new spots. "E.G "

I enjoy playing house and plane but sadly theses maps are removed to "fix" but I enjoy playing the game and understanding the characters bios and where they come from I enjoy looking and comparing stats. House is a fun map to play and joke around on since its a really small map

I dislike how broken the game is like for insteads "Doc glitch"

This glitch was gaming breaking boosting yourself and your team to 140 health and keeping them all at 140 health thanks to this glitch, So you can go into a fight and come out with over health, since hes only supposed to have 3. not minus.

I also didn't like how there was a three month period for "op Health" where they took three moths in to fixing a game which has been out for nearly 2 years and removing a whole season.  "Operation Health is all about fixing several issues"-

The graphics are decent they aren't the best since bugs but they are good since they look realist

The controls aren't that hard to understand if they play is used to shooting game it should fairly forward.

This is my final paragraph i will be listing pros and cons and giving a score

Pros-
Free content
Free drops
A starting boost.
Always changing and nerd/buffing needed things

Cons-
Bugs
Glitchs

Overall i give this a soild 8,5/10

My Gaming Machines then and now

My first Gaming console was N64 which I used to play with family we used to play Golden eye, the legend of zelda. I enjoyed this because i felt like i wasn't myself and was playing has the Main Charterer. or play with my family with multi player with gave me alot of joy and still do.
The Game-play is from one of my old favourites and a classic Golden eye "

Some Downfalls of the N64 was the lead that goes into the T,V sometimes if knocked by some would completely mess it up and turn the screen off and not turn back on for awhile if it does work the sound might be off. N64 you could buy a thing called game shark which was used for cheats which you could get so cheating in single player was a a big.

The specs:
  1. -Main processor : NEC VR4300 (93.75 MHz), based on RISC processor, MIPS R4300i-series.
    • L1 Cache: 24 KB, splitted in 16KB for instructions and 8KB for data.
    • No L2 cache.
    • Manufactured by NEC, 35 µm precision.
    • 32bit busses (addresses and data).
    • Instruction set : MIPS R4000 64-bit.
    • Adressable memory : 4GB (up to virtual 1TB).
    • 4.6 million transistors.
    • 5-stage scalar pipeline with integrated FPU.
    • Capacity to execute 93 million opérations per second.
    • Bandwith : 250MB/s (not DMA).
    • Microprocessor can't access directly the RAM.
  2. Graphic processors : SGI 62.5 MHz 64-bit RCP ("Reality" co-processor), with 2 sub-processors.
    • RSP (Reality Signal Processor), which controls 3D graphics and audio functionalities.
      • 8-bit vector processeur based on MIPS R4000.
      • Programmable using microcode (µcode). Possibilities to add or modify existing functions.
      • Transformation, clipping, lighting, triangle setup, and audio decoding (audio can also be done using main CPU).
      • Displayable polygons : initially about 100000 polygons per second, without quality loss. Some more recent games could display more thanks to graphic processor microcode optimization.
    • RDP (Reality Drawing Processor), rasterizer handles all pixel drawing operations in hardware.
      • Z-buffering : spatial relationship between 3D objects (is the hero in front of the house or behind?)
      • Anti-aliasing : smoothes jagged lines and edges (reduces "stair-effetc").
      • Texture mapping : places textures and images over shapes.
      • Bilinear filtering : prevents texture blockiness by blurring when resizing.
      • Mip-mapping : creates distance textures of varying degress of fidelity.
      • Trilinear mip-map interpolation : filters mip-maps and textures smoothly without blockiness. Nintendo 64's filtering is not entirely accurate, its precision was reduced to lower mathematical demands.
      • Perspective-correct texture mapping : keeps textures from "warping" when viewed at different angles.
      • Environment mapping.
      • Gouraud shading, fillrate of about 30 millions pixels per second when Z-buffering is enabled.
    • 128-bit internal data bus between RSP and RDP. Bandwith of about 1Gb/sec.
    • Resolution : from 256 x 224 to 640 x 480 pixels.

    • Data path : 9-bit width at 500 MHz
    • Potential Memory Bandwidth : 562.5 MB/s.
    • RAM latency about 640ns.
  4. Sound :
    • 16-bit Stereo. ADPCM-support. Some games used MP3 audio (software-driven).
    • Channels: 100 PCM (max, 16-24 avg.). Each channel consumes about 1% CPU time.
    • Sampling: 48.0 kHz (max, 44.1 kHz is CD quality)
  5. Media : cartridges from 32Mb (4MB) to 512Mb (64MB).
  6. Dimensions :
    • Length : 160mm
    • Width (depth) : 190mm
    • Height : 73mm
  7. Weight : 1.1 kg
  8. Controller connectors : 4
  9. Controller : 1 analog stick, 2 lateral triggers, 1 digital cross, 6 action buttons, 1 start button, and 1 digital trigger.

My newest console: Is the Xbox one i enjoy playing this since it more open since they have online so you can play with friends and other players unlike N64 you not just limited to people whom live close and family. Some befits of the console is You meet more people and meet with friends.and you don't have to go out to buy games you can buy and download or you can download them from a friend. some negatives are you  have to buy online to play and you may get lag and server issues and unlike the N64 how the games was stored since on the xbox they was in the disk which might get broken.

There is abit of game-play for the first 15 minutes from one of my favourites games to compare.

Pixel art-

Pixel art is a form of digital art wherein images are created and edited at the pixel level using a graphics editing software. ... The effect is a visual style very similar to that of mosaic art, cross-stitch and other types of embroidery techniques.
In this photo you can see blocks of colour and shades used to make a controller

Concept art-

2D-

Sprites are 2D bitmaps that are drawn directly to a render target without using the pipeline for transformations, lighting or effects. Sprites are commonly used to display information such as health bars, number of lives, or text such as scores. Some games, especially older games, are composed entirely of sprites.

First Blog-

Welcome to my blog I am Morgan this is where ill post all my work and other game related things.
